Sometimes we're out in the field, and something catches our eye and we share it!

Happy Monday

One thing I'm happy about this particular Monday? That, over the weekend, I was one of the millions of end-users who got the "your email info was compromised" message instead of the communications company responsible for putting out that message.

In flight safety with a twist

Just back from a trip across the country, so pardon my preoccupation with airplane themes, but this Richard Simmons Air Safety video highlighted on Mashable really spoke to me.

The Kids are Alright

A timely trend, or mere coincidence? As the New York Times aptly pointed out, this year's Oscar theme more than flirted with mass communication. “The King’s Speech” racked up three of the more sought-after awards (director, actor, picture). And while “The Social Network,” didn't garner the big prizes for its makers, it certainly was one of the most talked about films of the year and managed to scoop up some honors (best adapted screenplay, editing and score). And one could argue that "Inception," another movie that got lots of buzz this summer, also explores the way people transfer thought--communicate--with one another.

let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Yes, the end of February is a sprint, daffodil shoots have poked up, and our three pullets are making egg-laying gestures, but that doesn't stop the forecast from threatening a late-season winter weather event.

Winding down and revving up

Happy holidays from BridgePoint Creative! Today marks the "last official work day" of 2010 for BPC, though we will respond to emergencies and dire needs, as one or the other of us will be on the grid throughout. In deference to the annual wind-down, we are now on holiday blogging/social media posting schedule--which will be spotty at best. And, we imagine that our readers, clients and friends will be similarly occupied with home-and-hearth activities, as it should be!

Are artists a depressing lot?

I'm always somewhat annoyed, yet resigned, when I run across confirmation that artists, writers, actors, singers and people who work in creative fields generally are more at risk for depression. At risk, is the operative clause, however--doesn't mean we have to succumb, or that when we do feel down, we can't bounce back.

Smile, you’re on candid iPhone

The other night, at a party, I realized that all the cameras being whipped out were not, in fact, cameras. I actually had a hard time recollecting the last time I saw someone yank a point-and-shoot from their handbag and aim it at an unsuspecting bystander. Sure enough, I just came across this article in the New York Times that backs up my assertion that smartphones are the new pocket camera.

awesome, digital interface of the month

The New Yorker has this wonderful online feature: monthly fiction podcasts, where popular writers read classic favorites, introducing them via a short interview (think Terri Gross) by New Yorker fiction editor Deborah Treisman. This month, it's David Means reading the very first Raymond Carver short story ever published in The New Yorker. The story is called "Chef's House."

Welcome to Our World

Posted by Suzy Vitello Soulé on August 29th, 2009 at 02:13 PM | Comment!

When I was a little girl imagining what I wanted to "be" when I grew up, the words "strategic communicator!" never once appeared in my daydreams. That just goes to show that we live in a world where jobs, careers, identities and entrepreneurial ventures are evolving at humming bird-flickering speeds.

One of the main reasons we got into the business of "strategic communications" is that we believe that the old carpenter adage, "measure twice, cut once" is also crucial to the field of marketing and communications. My co-founder-in-crime, Laura McCulloch, likes to say, "Our culture is running as fast as it can to stay five steps behind!" The pressure to micro-blog your existence before it changes has superseded conscious, well-thought out business strategy, and we'd like to address that. We may twitter in bursts of 10Mbps, but our important business decisions should be made at human speed. In other words, when it comes to identity creation, we believe in developing carefully, launching once.

In service to our claim, welcome to BridgePoint Creative--the website! Though we've been in business for several years, we've taken our time developing our brand. Client-by-client we've built bridges across the country, up and down the West Coast, and over the river and through the woods. We're grateful that, at long last we're able to share our world with the larger world. We'd love to hear what you think.
