Forget the Pulitzer, one of the best-selling authors in my writing group, Chelsea Cain, needs to get the award for mother-of-the-year. True, she was following her own bliss when she booked a flight bound for London within hours of the Royal Engagement announcement, but still—she took her six-year-old daughter overseas for an event that makes the Superbowl seem like a peewee football game.
I enjoyed vicariously participating in their excursion via Facebook, but was eagerly awaiting the personal essay that I knew would result—and here it is, on Oregon Live! Even better, I’m sure, will be daughter Eliza’s account of this trip down the road. Whereas Chelsea once wrote a book about being raised by hippies, Eliza will have to settle for writing a book about being raised by hipsters.
