let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Yes, the end of February is a sprint, daffodil shoots have poked up, and our three pullets are making egg-laying gestures, but that doesn’t stop the forecast from threatening a late-season winter weather event.

As you know, if you follow this blog, my business partner Laura is in town for the week. Meetings are planned. Client calls are in the offing. Design reviews sit in our Outlook calendars wondering if they will be deleted, because there may be a dusting of snow. Or hail. Or there may be seven inches of the white stuff on the valley floor. Who knows? Nobody. So here’s what I’m doing: adopting the zen koan of total presence. In other words, nothing.

Thank God for Mother Nature, I say. Bring on the snow days, the ice storms, the weather “events.” Remind us all that we can’t control everything; that our plans are merely question marks written in pencil. My husband the school teacher and my child the school attender would be elated should the mercury drop whilst the moisture rolls in. As for Laura and I? Well, we have iPhones, skype, several ginormous monitors and wi-fi (unless the ice/snow takes it out). And if all else fails, there’s the blessed “watch instantly” function on the Netflix.
