Some excellent new distractions

Need some new blogs to follow? I love when things come across my desk that feel like serendipity.  In the Oregonian today, Jeff Baker offered a five interesting, fun online diversions guaranteed to make your day.

The article itself isn’t on line as of this reporting, so I’ll short list Baker’s picks here:

The late and oft interviewed Reynolds Price offers some sage advice and wonderful insights to humanity’s big questions.  Peruse and ponder here: http://news.duke.edu/reynoldsprice/news.html

And speaking of advice, if you’re wanting a spoon full of sugar to go along with a cup full of spice, you MUST tune in to the Dear Sugar column. I’ve been following Sugar for the last year, and he always puts a smile on my face: http://therumpus.net/author/sugar/

Be in the know with everything pop culture, without feeling voyeuristic and icky.  Rob Sheffield’s column will just make you feel voyeuristic and snarky! http://www.rollingstone.com/curlture/blogs/pop-life

Now for something completely different!  Check out this live webcam from the North Shore of Oahu, so you can drool with envy as you put another log on the fire through the deep mid winter (unless, of course, you’re Laura McCulloch and live in Pasadena where it’s 80 degrees all the live-long year!) http://livesurfcamhawaii.com/oahu/northshore.htm

Speaking of SoCal, this next entry is from Laura’s neck o’ the woods.  Sunset Strip’s awesome indie bookstore, Book Soup, has a smart arts and lit blog with the unabashed tagline, (and quote from Thomas Jefferson), “I cannot live without books.” http://booksoupbookstore.blogspot.com/

And here’s one of my own faves, that wasn’t mentioned by Baker, but if he knew about it, he’d of stuck it in there: My daily addiction, agent Betsy Lerner’s blog, “The Forest for the Trees.” http://betsylerner.wordpress.com/, and do read the comments, they’re half the fun!

Some excellent new distractions
