I made a HUGE mistake by keeping my reading pane open on Outlook. Did you know that simply by having your preview pane open you are vulnerable to the bad guys?
Last week my laptop started acting funny. And I don’t mean funny ha ha. Parts of my screen momentarily looked like they were in “safe mode” and I was getting a bunch of pop up sites whilst surfing the Interwebs. So I engaged my anti-virus program and ran a malware scan. Once complete, I restarted my machine and viola! Blue Screen of Death. The good news is that my IT surgeon extraordinaire, Dr. Dennis Carter of Ohio, was scheduled to arrive within 24 hours. I haven’t seen Dr. Carter in several years, so we had a lot of catching up to do. Which we did while he performed surgery on my machine. He was able to get her open long enough to figure out that she was ridden with THOUSANDS of viri. I kid you not. How did this happen, I wondered? I have firewalls and anti-virus programs and malware stoppers and I never click on spammy links or open suspicious attachments. Well. All that is fine, but guess what? I made a HUGE mistake by keeping my reading pane open on Outlook. Did you know that simply by having your preview pane open you are vulnerable to the bad guys? I did not. But I do now, so no more previewing of emails for moi. Of course no one knows for certain how the viri infiltrated my system, could have been via email, or it could have been from the Interwebs. The bad guys are everywhere. Especially now on the Social Networks, like Facebook and Twitter.
Dr. Carter was able to backup most of my files onto an external hard drive, then proceeded to wipe the slate clean. Now I am in restoration mode, reinstalling software and calling back my files, which I hope are infection free. Meantime my machine is running fast and is clutter-free. That I like. So a big shout out to Dr. Dennis Carter for coming to the rescue!
